Sleepy Hollow Season 2 Episode 17 Review: Step On Over To The Dark Side

"Awakening" was originally slated as the finale back before the season was extended-- hence why the action was ratcheted up. Not that I'm complaining. It was the best episode I've seen in some time.

As you may recall, last week Katrina learned of Henry's existence and went all white eyed. Captain Irving revealed to Jenny that he would soon lose control to Evil Frank. In this episode Katrina officially joins the dark side. Great news to me. Crazy Wicked Katrina is the best Katrina of all. Plus, let's face it, the fans couldnt like her any less than they already do. I just wish she had switched teams earlier.

Of Course Ichabod Put A Crack In The Liberty Bell

The plot involves the Liberty Bell. Ringing the bell will summon those of witchy ancestry to form a coven in Sleepy Hollow. And then what will Henry do with them? I dont know. Side note: Frank had Jenny get his wife and daughter out of town so they wouldnt be affected (since they also have witch blood).

Frank Apparently Thinks He's In "American Sniper"

Jenny and Frank are separated from the rest of the group early on and have a ninja style smackdown. Jenny never gets around to turning the Medusa (Gorgon) head on Frank. Not sure what they were trying to do there. Luckily Henry dies, thus releasing Frank from his control. And given what Frank coughs up, I'm pretty sure he has black lung.

Mother & Child Reunion

Meanwhile its Team Ichabbie vs Team Katenry. Yes it's way too late for marriage counseling for Katrina and Ichabod. Abbie shoots Henry and he dies. Sorry Henry but I was SO tired of you blaming Daddy for all your problems. Get some therapy dude. We'll probably see him again-- since "dead" is never really dead on these types of shows.

I Really Wish I Could Do This To People

After Henry is killed, Katrina goes full witch. She opens a time door to the past and is ready to exit when Abbie jumps in with her. So back to 1781 they go. Abbie ends up on the same road where we find met Ichabod at the beginning of the series. Of course he was in present day and she is in the past. Abbie is promptly carted off to jail. Things were rough in colonial America for an Africa American women and African Americans and women. Abbie says she has valuable war intelligence and will only speak to Ichabod. Next week should be interesting.

Colonial Sleepy Hollow's Version Of The Internet

Favorite Quotes:
  • "I did not abandon you Henry. I did not even know you existed!"- Ichabod to son Henry.
  • "I have neglected myself."- Katrina. Uh, no, no you havent.
  • "The bell rings and 1000 people turn into witches?"- Abbie.
  • Abbie: "Did you crack the Liberty Bell?" Ichabod: "A little."
  • "What pray tell are seasonal items?"- Ichabod.
  • "Sometimes old school is the best school."- Abbie.
  • "I am sorry it took me so long to see the truth. The idea that a mortal man and I could truly make a life together."- Katrina about Ichabod.
  • "Im glad that I'm not in this alone."- Ichabod to Abbie.
  • "Duty above all else."- Ichabod.
  • "I must have left them in my sock drawer, you know how that is."- Abbie to colonial dudes asking for her papers.

Grade: 4 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). Great fun! Sure Katrina switched sides quickly but who cares. She always needed a serious personality transplant. Too bad it didnt happen earlier. Any predictions about the finale? Will we see Headless Abe again? I just hope next week is not a letdown after this great episode.
