Agent Carter Episode 5 Review: Dottie Vs Peg Smackdown Coming Soon

In "Iron Ceiling" we learn more about Dottie and get to see the Howling Commandos again. We met them previously in a brief "Agents of SHIELD" flashback. The episode opens in Russia in 1937. The person we know as Dottie is a child. She is with a group of other girls who watch Disney movies to learn American accents. They are also instructed in hand to hand combat. Dottie is forced to kill her friend. Back in 1947 Dottie and Peg eat breakfast. Dottie wants to see all of New York. Peg tells her to get to know the people instead of the tourist traps. Dottie steals Peggy's keys.

Peg and Jarvis are still on the outs. She is very upset that Howard and Jarvis lied to her about Captain America's blood. Jarvis says that, despite all of his faults, Stark is still a good man... and he's the only person that accepts Peg as a equal.

Hello Dum Dum. I Like Your Hat.

The magic typewriter sends a secret message. Peg breaks the code. It's coordinates and a message about Leviathan. Carter wants to join the mission. The guys object (even though she knows Russia better than everyone else). She finally convinces them by getting the 107th Regiment (the Howling Commandos) as escorts.

While Peg is changing in the locker room Sousa spots a wound on Peg's shoulder. He checks her files and the pictures of the mysterious blond. Both have the same two bullet scars. Uh oh, trouble is brewing.

Beware Of Little Russian Girls (ie Deadly Assassins)

The team arrives at the Russian boarding school where Dottie grew up. They see the Disney film reel and handcuffs on the beds. There is a small girl. Dum Dum tries to speak with her but she stabs him the chest and scurries away. Luckily Dugan flack's jacket saved him. It's a trap. Leviathan has been alerted to our group's presence.

They find two prisoners in a cell. They are going to use Stark's stolen schematic to make a Photonic Amplifier weapon. There's a big gun battle with lots of ammo wasted. One of the prisoners tries to take the Americans hostage but the other prisoner shoots him. Peg proves she's battle ready. Thompson on the other hand is not. He freezes. Everyone escapes (except for the crazy Russian guy and Agent Li).

Agent Thompson Is Not The Touch Guy He Pretends To Be

On the plane back home, Jack reveals to Peg that he was not a war hero after all. He killed some unarmed men who were surrendering. To Peg's credit she doesnt get in any jabs. She is a better person than me. Thompson had been a major jerk to her up until that point. Notice his attitude towards Peg vs the Howling Commandos (who very much respect her).

The other scientist (Dr Ivchenko) travels to the US to help the SSR. Thompson and Peg report back to Chief Dooley. They dont believe Stark is connected to Leviathan. Jack invites Peg out for drinks with the boys. Meanwhile Dottie scopes out Peg's room and finds her false drawer (which contains pictures of Stark's weapons). She does not find Captain America's blood (because it hiden in the wall behind a picture). Dottie is going to pretend to be Peg. Peg, you should move out of the Griffith immediately.

The HC

Favorite Quotes:
  • "If you want to get to know New York, if you want to get to know any place, you have to get to to know it's people first."
  • Jarvis: "He can be thoughtless inconsiderate, vane, childish, unreliable, arrogant." Peg: "You flatter him." Jarvis: "But he's a good man."
  • Peg: "I am a federal agent." Jarvis: "Yes, finely trained in the art of fetching coffee."
  • Prisoner: "You are not Leviathan. Who are you?" Peg: "We're the good guys."

Grade: 4 3/4 Monsters (out of 5). This is my second favorite episode thus far (after the premiere). Lots of action and lots of character development. I also cant wait for the Peg/Dottie Smackdown. Hopefully this is not the last we see of the Howling Commandos.
