The Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 11 Review: You Can Trust Me

When we last caught up with "TWD", a smiling clean guy named Aaron had appeared out of nowhere. In "The Distance" he wants the group to "audition" for membership in his community. Aaron has been watching them for some time. He's the one that left the bottled water last week.

Would You Trust This Man?

Rick is highly skeptical of the guy (and I think rightfully so). He's way too happy and talks too much. Friendly people should not be trusted during the ZA. See Woodbury and Terminus as two examples. Rick punches Aaron in the face. But as Michonne has said in previous episodes, she's tired of running. She wants to see if what Aaron says is true. Mich, Glenn, Maggie, Abraham and Rosario head out. Rick says if he doesnt hear from them in 60 minutes (via walkie talkie) he will kill Aaron.

Judith is hungry. Aaron brought applesauce. Rick doesnt know if its poisoned. He wants Aaron to test it first but Aaron doesnt like applesauce. Seriously? Dude, if you want Rick to trust you, eat a bite of applesauce. That scene seemed ridiculous to me. The writers are purposefully trying to jerk us around.

Abe And Rosario Still Arent Taking Any Chances

The other team finds the camper and car just as Aaron said. They are stocked with canned food. Everyone is very happy. After some discussion they decide to leave with Aaron at nightfall. Who thought that was a good idea? Fighting zombies is bad enough but fighting zombies in the dark? Forget about it...

During the ride, Aaron shows them blurry photos of his home. Why are there no people in the pictures? Mich asks Aaron the "Three Questions".
How many walkers have you killed? How many people have you killed? Why?

In the dark, Glenn drives though a bunch of walkers. While I will admit that was a cool visual, I still think traveling at dark is a really BAD idea. Then the car stalls out. They're swarmed by walkers. Glenn is almost bitten. Aaron is almost bitten. Glenn saves Aaron. They get separated from the RV.  Zombie with a flare gun to the face is the best zombie of the week.

Disaster adverted. They all find each other. The RV crew has rescued a guy who turns out ot be Aaron's boyfriend. He has a broken ankle (but still managed to get Aaron a license plate for his collection). Aaron says he owes everyone for helping Eric. He will repay them when they get to Alexandria. OK I'm liking Aaron better now (even though he still talks too much).

The scene ends with Rick holding Judith saying "should we go?" while everyone stands outside the gate at Alexandria. Rick hears the voices of children and other people talking so he feels a little (maybe just a tiny bit) better about entering.

Favorite Quotes:
  • "You can trust me."- Aaron.
  • "We may be good people but that doesnt mean we wont kill you."- Rick to Aaron.
  • "We need this. So we're going. All of us...This is whats going to happen"- Michonne to Rick.
  • "Its hard to trust anyone who smiles after getting punched in the face"- Rick.
  • "I dont like applesauce"- Aaron. Seriously? How bout if I punch you in the face again.
  • "I dont know man. This barn smells like horseshit"- Daryl.

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). The group FINALLY has some hope and moves to a new location. We all know they cant stay at Alexandria forever or the show would be over. But at least they can get some rest, shower and meet some normal (or as normal as it gets during the ZA) people. And if the citizens cant be trusted I feel secure in knowing that CrazyRick and crew will put a cap in somebody's ass.
