Helix Season 2 Epi 5 Review: Nothing More Than A Picture On A Wall

In "Oubliette" we learn that Kyle is not your run of the mill CDC worker. He was hired by the CIA (or some such government agency) to spy on Alan. I thought that guy was up to something.

FutureCaleb finds Jules passed out on a rock from the sword wound courtesy of Daddy Hatake. Caleb nurses her back to health. Meanwhile in present times, Sarah is still in a bad spot. Agnes tells Peter and Kyle to get outta the way so she can save Sarah's life.

On to bee news. Peter tells Michael that the bees are carrying the virus. Michael says they dont eat anything outside the walls. Someone must have harvested the honey and shared it with others... or bees stung a number of people. Michael threatens the ladies with a poisonous plant. He tells them to fix it... or else. Kyle heads out in his bee suit but some crazy cultists chase him. He escapes after one guy is killed by the bees. Landry and Amy later help him destroy the hive.

Maybe You Two Should Stay In The Dungeon Indefinitely

Peter also reveals to Michael that "Jerome" is his brother Alan. And by "brother" he means the we-have-the-same-mommy-and-daddy kind (as opposed to the we're-all-brothers-and-sisters-in-this-weirdo-cult kind). Peter is repaid for his honesty by being thrown into the hole with Alan. Peter and Alan go at it about Julia (remember they both slept with her). Peter calls Alan a murder and a terrorist. Alan calls Peter a half rate hack who could never measure up.  They later make up. Peter hoists Alan out of the hole. Then Alan leaves him there. So much for the happy family reunion. Alan wants to know how long Peter has been working for Ilaria? No comment.

I Thought For a Split Second That Agnes Might Kill Sarah

Sarah is healing rapidly thanks to Agnes (and the fact that she's immortal). Agnes is a super smart old lady and knows Sarah is pregnant. Sarah asks her to please keep it a secret. Agnes later drugs Sarah and removes her contact lenses saying "No, it cant be".

What Is Caleb Really Up To?

Thirty years in the future, Caleb tells Jules about his family. His father died in a Narvik outbreak. His mother took Caleb to the island since the rest of the world was not a fit place to raise a child. It sounds like the outside world has seriously gone to hell in the past 30 years. Caleb takes the sword while Julia is sleeping. We still dont know what the markings on it means.

Amy Has A Plan But We Dont Know What It Is Yet

Kyle confronts Alan. Alan thinks he works for Ilaria. Kyle handcuffs Alan to something in the lab. Agnes tells Amy that Sarah is a silver eye. Amy later gets a jar of honey from Landry. She says she will use it to finally get off the island. What is Sister Amy really up to?

Agnes confronts Michael about Sarah. "Of all my daughters, you've always been my favorite". She says she just wants to be with him forever and wonders if he could have made her immortal. He says her doubt will ruin everything he has worked for for 500 years. And with that he snaps her neck. Next week stay turned for Agnes' picture being added to the "Wall of Ladies".

Side Note: The episode title "Oubliette" means a dungeon with an opening in the top. This is what Peter and Alan were thrown into.

Favorite Quotes:

  • "Sometimes nature finds a way."- Ann to Michael about the contaminated honey.
  • "On this island nature does what I tell it to do--just like you. Fix this."- Michael to Ann and Amy.
  • Julia: "I am immortal not indestructible. I dont age. I heal faster than you but I cant regrow a finger. I'm not Wolverine." Caleb: "Who is Wolverine?"
  • "When I'm gone I'll be nothing more than a picture on a wall."- Agnes to Sarah.
  • "Every time something bad happens you turn up."- Alan to Peter.
  • Caleb: "You killed your father?" Julia: "We had issues."
  • Agnes: "The CDC doctor is a silver eye." Amy: "That's not possible". Agnes: "You're right Amy, that's not possible."
  • Alan: "Not my fault I was better at everything." Peter: "That's not what your wife said." Oh snap!
  • “Maybe it only took a little bit of mortality to make you human again."- Caleb to Julia whne she says she's trying to save the rest of the immortals.
  • "This jar is going to get me off this island"- Amy says to Landry before she gives him another hand job. Amy you are a disgusting little horndog.
  • "Of all my daughters, you've always been my favorite."- Michael to Agnes before he snaps her neck.
  • "There's more to life than living forever."- Sarah to Agnes.

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). A good episode with a couple of great reveals. Just as we suspected, Brother Michael is indeed an immortal. What's he been trying to do on that island for the past 500 years?
