Sleepy Hollow Season 2 Epis 14-16 Reviews: Hindu Goddesses, Pilgrim Warlocks, And A Holographic Thomas Jefferson

After watching all of season 1 religiously I have been remiss in watching every episode of season 2. It's not because the stories arent fun, it's just because I have a jam packed schedule of other shows. There are only two episodes left in season 2. This may be the last of "Sleepy Hollow" since the show has not been renewed.

Episode 14: Kali Yuga
The woman who raised Nicky is in town. Carmilla Pines is a notorious treasure hunter. It's always great to see the fabulous Ms Jaime Murray. She is a breathe of fresh air every time she's on screen. Carmilla tells Nicky they have to knock off Henry Knox's former home to recover a statue. Carmilla has been turned into a "Vatala" by the Thuggis. A Vatala is a super strong undead human who worships the Hindu goddess of death and regeneration-- Kali. With the statue, Carmilla can break the spell and become human again.

A descendant of Knox has a black market auction several times of year. This is the perfect opportunity to hit his house. Ichy, Abbie and Jenny are on the case. Abbie is captured by Carmilla. Hawley showed up and asks her to spare Abbie and Ichabod. If she doesn he will come back to her.

Abbie and Ichy are almost spiked in the vault but they finally escape (gold is the key). Hawley is knocked out by mommy. She lied about the statue. She's not using it to become human. She's using it to make more Vatala. In fact, she's going to turn Nicky as well.

Abbie and Ichy arrive. A fight ensues but Carmilla escapes. Hawley vows to leave town in search of her. On a related note, all the charges against Captain Irving have been dropped. He goes home with his wife. There's still something not quite right about him. They go to see Katrina for help. To be continued...

Episode 15: Spellcaster

A warlock pilgrim arrives and steals a spell book (the Grand Grimoire) from the local museum or library or whatever that place is. We see in flashbacks that said warlock was in Salem in the 1600s. He had the hots for a pilgrim lady. She spurned him. He killed her and then made her out to be a demon. This ignited the Salem Witch Trials where a number of his coven mates (including Katarina's granny) were hung. Smooth move dude.

Anyway, in present day, Solomon Kent is trying to use the spell book to go back in time and set things right (and maybe he just wants to make another pass at that pilgrim chick). There's a battle. Katarina goes all white eyed. Is she going to the dark side? Next Ichy shows up and beats the crap out of the guy. Sol is finally killed by Frank who snaps his neck, turns him to dust and steals the spell book when no one is looking.

Over at the motel, Henry is tired of being nice. He puts the smackdown on some bullies. Dont tell me they didnt have it coming. Next Henry meets Frank in the woods. He gives him the spell book. Henry says he thought this was where it all ended but if fact it's where it all begins. Uh oh. That's not a good sign.

Episode 16: What Lies Beneath
The episode opens with three surveyors checking the underground tunnel system. They open an old manhole. The three are drug beneath by some creature.

And what's a "Sleepy Hollow" episode without a historical figure? This time its a big hitter-- Thomas Jefferson. He created the underground vault and the creatures are guarding it. Ichabod continues his tradition of knowing everybody that was anybody in Colonial America.

The creatures that captured the men look like something out of "The Cave". And they are a very hungry bunch. The Witnesses are harassed by one of the missing men's brothers. Yes he's won a Pulitzer...blah, blah, blah. How many times is he going to remind us of that?

We finally meet a holographic Thomas Jefferson. It contains all the thoughts and feelings of the original Jefferson. He is guarding all the collective wisdom compiled for the Witnesses. Both Abbie and Ichabod were selected for this mission hundreds of years ago. The men are rescued. Abbie and Ichy determine that the creatures are too dangerous. They must destroy the power cell that fuels the Jefferson hologram (which will also destroy all the research materials). That's a difficult decision.

Jenny and Frank have a heart to heart. He has been using a rune that he found in Henry's book that can shield the true nature of a person (so he could pass Katrina's test). The rune also made Frank feel human again. He found bank accounts owned by the Hell Fire Club. He gives Jenny the info so his wife and daughter can get as far away from Sleepy Hollow as possible. Evil Frank is about to take over for good. That's why he's trusting Jenny with this info.

Henry reveals himself to Katrina in a dream. He says "I killed Muloch for you mother. It's time for us to begin our work". She awakes but turns around to find black roses on a table. Uh oh, that was no dream. This is only the beginning...

Come To The Dark Side. It's Lots More Fun!

Summing up where we are this year:

Moloch is dead.
Orion the angel is gone. He left a charm for Abbie that Ichabod finds in episode 14.
Captain Irving is back from the dead but he's up to no good.
Nicky is off looking for his adopted mommy.
Henry is back and finally reveals himself to Katarina in episode 16.
Is Katrina going to take a walk on the dark side?

Grade: 3 3/4 Monsters (out of 5). We're nearing the end. I really hope "Sleepy Hollow" goes out with a bang. There are a number of good possibilities if they will only try them. I think an evil Katrina would be great!
