Marvels Agents Of SHIELD Season 2 Episodes 2 Thru 8 Recaps: A Buried City And A Buried Past

I dont review "Agents Of SHIELD" regularly but watch most of the episodes. Here's where we are with two episodes to go before the winter break. In "Things We Bury" Morse interrogates Bakshi about Whitehall and the Red Skull. Bobbi and Lance continue to dance around each other and end up knocking boots in the back of a limo.

Off To See The City...

Coulson and team head to the Australian outback to hack a satellite in order to locate the lost city. As you'll recall from last week, Coulson figured out that the strange schematics he/others were drawing was actually a map to a city.

"The Doctor" (ie Skye's father) first saves the life of Trip (after he was shot) and then puts his life back in danger in order to escape. He runs off while Coulson tries to keep Trip from bleeding  to death. Doc wants to get to the city too and has been working with Whitehall (but he doesnt trust him). He's just feeds Whitehall and SHIELD info as needed.

There are lots of flashbacks to Agent Carter and Reinhardt (who Simmons finally identifies to the others as Whitehall). Back in 1945 he found a woman who was immune to effects of the obelisk/diviner (while anyone else who touched it turned to ash). He was put in prison after the war but later freed by Hydra. They round up a bunch of older Chinese villagers. One woman has not aged a day. It's the woman who touched the obelisk. Reinhardt performs an autopsy, pulls out all her organs and rejuvenates himself. That was a very graphic scene and hard to watch. I do like where AoS is going though. The bad guys are REALLY bad this season (unlike season 1 which was a bit of a snoozefest).

Brotherly Bonding

Grant (who escaped last week) visits his senator brother Christian Ward. Grant makes him dig up the long dried up well. Grant wants Christian to admit that he made Grant throw Tommy (their little brother) down the well. Christian says he did it because he hated Tommy. Their mother didnt torture Tommy the way she did Christian. We think Grant is going to kill Christian but they hug it out. That seemed too easy.

Later we see Grant interviewing with Whitehall (who keeps talking about second chances). We hear in a voiceover that Christian and their mother and father died in a fire (a supposed murder/suicide). Did Ward really kill them (and frame his brother) or is it all an elaborate plan to save Skye, imprison Whitehall, and take down Hyrdra once and for all? I'm not sure at this point if: 1. Ward is really really bad; 2. He's deep undercover for SHIELD; or 3. He's just bat shit crazy.

The Doctor Is In

In the other shocker of the episode we learn that the woman Whitehall killed to regain his youth was... wait for it... she was Skye's mother and Doc's wife. Wow. There will hell to pay now.

Skye's Mom Was Gone Way Too Soon

I hope we find out more about the creatures that brought the obelisk. So far we know "blue angels" came to earth but what are they planning to do here? Are they Kree? How does this tie in with the Asgaardians (if at all)?

Welcome Agent Carter And The SSR

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). So far, season 2 is MUCH better than season 1. There are only two episodes to go before the winter finale (which airs on December 9). Then "Agents of SHIELD" wont be back until March 2015. "Agent Carter" begins on 1/15/15.
