Zunami at 12 o'clock
Much of "Zunami" is spent on a Citizen Z story line. While I have nothing against the guy, I find I like him best in small doses. Z is doing his usual monitoring of the planet's communications when he sees a space capsule crash nearby. He meets a Russian cosmonaut named Yuri. They are happy to share each other's company. They play golf/video games, drive around in a golf cart and drink lots of vodka. But things are not as they seem. There were several clues to what was really going on. I've included a few below:
- Something's wrong with the dog.
- The oxygen alarm goes off.
- Z feels faint.
- The outside monitor says there were no life forms on the crashed capsule.
- The cosmonaut wants to keep his spacesuit on because he's afraid of the lack of oxygen.
- Yuri knows Z's real name is Simon.
- Yuri keeps asking Z "what is wrong with the dog" over and over again.
- Yuri almost chokes the life out of Z. Kudos to some great acting by DJ Qualls in that scene. He really looked like the stuffing was being choked out of him.
Think Z. Think!
Anyway Z figures it all out (in the nick of time) and drags himself and the dog to an open door (so they can get some air). They will live to fight zombies another day.
Not Sure A Body Bag Is The Best Place To Hide From Zombies
Meanwhile Team Murphy is somewhere in Nebraska/Kansas. A zunami is approaching. It's a swarm of millions of zombies who came down from Canada. Apparently they're heading south because zombies dont like the cold. Cant say as I blame them. Our crew cant outrun them so they hold up in the nearest building (which happens to be a morgue). Everyone gets into a drawer (except for Roberta who is zipped into a body bag).

This Man (Errr Zombie Hybrid) Cannot Be Trust
Meanwhile Murphy walks freely among the zombies. After the swarm passes he thinks about taking the provisions and leaving everyone there but he doesnt. When asked where the food and water came from, Murphy says "I got it from a dead family". What he neglects to say is that the mother and daughter were very much alive when he left them. After stealing their stuff, Murphy let what appeared to be the husband/father (who is zombified) back into the building to eat them. Pretty harsh! Anyway Murphy is a hero to the survivors now (since they were near death from dehydration). People, do not be lulled into a false sense of security around Murphy. You will be sorry! In the final scene, Murphy catches a glimpse of himself in a mirror. He eyes are starting to change. Who knows what he'll turn into next. They better get him to the CDC in California post haste.
Mack and Abbie were not seen this week but they'll be back next Friday.
Favorite Quotes:
- When asked where he got the food/water Murphy says "from a dead family". Yep they werent dead until ya let that zombie back into the building.
- "Murphy dont leave us"- Roberta before being zipped into a body bag. He thinks about it but ends up coming back for them.
- "Dude a fireball from outer space gives the base a haircut and you got nothing for me?"- Citizen Z to his dog.
- "Great I'm the one eyed king in the land of the blind"- Murphy about his status among the zombies.
Grade: 3 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). Not a whole lot going on since most of the time was spent with Z. The weakest episode to date but I still love ya "Z Nation". Hopefully things will pick up next week.
