Top 25 Most Haunted Places In America: Part 1 of 2

I originally started this list as daily tweets leading up to Halloween but I thought it would be nice to have them all in one placeIncluded are: one ship, one cave, one lighthouse, one battlefield, a few cemeteries, a few haunted houses and a whole lotta prisons and lunatic asylums. Let me know in the comments if you visited any of these (and if you experienced paranormal activity).

25. Queen Anne (Ship) Hotel- Long Beach, CA- If you like to be scared on a ship, this is the place for you.Check out their website for the most active hotspots. There are also shops, restaurants, etc http://www.queenmary.com/tours-exhibits/tours-exhibits-attractions/haunted-encounters/

24. General Wayne Inn- Merion Station, PA- The ghosts here are mainly of the Revolutionary variety. Where else can you find Hessian soldier ghosts? http://4girlsandaghost.wordpress.com/2012/09/15/american-murder-house-general-wayne-inn-merion-station-pa/

23. Whaley House- San Diego, CA- if there were hangings, there are probably ghosts. Just ask Yahkee Jim. http://whaleyhouse.org/hauntedfolklore.htm

22.St Louis Cemetery- New Orleans, LA- the cemeteries on New Orleans are normally creepy but this one might be especially so. Also Marie Laveau (you may know her from "American Horror Story: Coven" is buried here. http://www.hauntedhouses.com/states/la/saint_louis_cemetery.htm

21. Lemp Mansion- St Louis, MO- The Lemp family became rich from their brewery but a number of suicides befell the family. Most died without leaving a suicide note. And if that werent creepy enough there is a natural occurring cave system under the property. The Lemp haunted house is supposed to be out of this world. http://www.legendsofamerica.com/mo-lempmansion.html

20. Stepp Cemetery- Martinsville, IN- Lots of haunted stories surround the cemetery (the ghost of one of the Stepp children, a mother who lost her child, cult rituals, etc). You be the judge.  http://www.prairieghosts.com/stepp.html

19. Bell Witch Cave- Adams, TN- Legend has it that both the house on the property and the cave underneath are inhabited by a witch. Her grave was nearby, her bones were scattered and she is looking for a lost tooth. Will someone please give her her tooth already? If I lived there, I'd gladly give her one of mine to make her go away. http://www.bellwitchcave.com/ghost_hauntings/bell_witch_legend.htm

18. Alcatraz- San Francisco, CA- Housing murders and rapists for over 100 years would tend to leave some serious bad energy. Although the prison closed in 1963 the ghosts still remain.  http://crime.about.com/od/prison/a/alcatrazghosts.htm

17. Bachelors Grove Cemetery- southwest Chicago, IL- The ravages of time, vandals and possibly ghosts have all had an effect on this out of the way cemetery. Many of the tombstones and graves have been disrupted. There have been a number of ghost sightings including a horse drawn carriage emerging from the swamp. Numerous visitors report seeing a house materialize and dematerialize. A ghost woman walks the ground carrying her baby and a young boy searches for his lost money. http://www.prairieghosts.com/bachgrov.html

16. Ohio State Reformatory- Mansfield, OH- As one would expect, this prison has a checkered past including: inmate deaths (some were thrown from the top of the 5 story cell tiers), escaped inmate murder sprees of nearby residents, the warden's wife's death (a suspicious gunshot wound killed her) and the warden's death (had a heart attack in his office sometime after his wife died). I have visited OSR and have taken all of the tours. Even if you dont see ghosts (which I didnt) , the eerie abandoned building is well worth the visit. They also have a SUPER haunted house. http://www.mrps.org/

15 Eastern State Penitentiary- Philadelphia, PA- The prison has been closed since 1971 but someone forgot to tell the spirits. Approximately 75,000 prisoners were housed at ESP during it's history. The treatment some convicts endured here can only be described as torture. http://www.easternstate.org/

14.Stanley Hotel- Estes Park, CO- Remember Stephen King's "The Shining"? Well here's his inspiration. Like the Hotel California, you can check out but you can never leave.See the Stanley Hotel website for which rooms are haunted by particular spirits.   http://www.stanleyhotel.com/about/haunted-history
