The Undead Love Triangle

Thank goodness season 2 of "In The Flesh" is longer than the 3 episodes of season 1. The show now has time to explore the relationships of the various residents of Roarton  (both dead and undead) and the social effects of the Rising.

The government has instituted a no travel ban for PDS suffers. Kieren makes it as far as the train station. His trip to France will have to wait. The family breakfast before Kieren left (complete with berets) was hilarious though. Maxine forces everyone to repay their debt to society by joining the "Give Back Scheme" It's a zombie work program.

Jen goes back to school but feels alienated. When they find out she was a HVF war hero, she is accepted by the popular girls. There is a rabid zombie at school. They send her out with a sword to kill him but Jen freezes and wets herself. One of the girls tells Jen she murdered her undead brother in the supermarket. Jen is no hero in her book.

We learn that any type of brains (be it animal or human) act as a drug for the deadies. Add that to Blue Oblivion or that other Neuro-whatchamacallit and there's a whole lot of zombie drugs going around.

Jen later joins Gary for some rotter hunting. She accidentally kills Henry (the PDS sufferer at school who has a crush on her). She is distraught and turns herself into Maxine. Maxine doesnt really care that Jen killed Henry (since he probably killed a number of people before treatment). When they go looking for the body, Gary says he burned it. Gary later returns to Jenn's house and kisses her.

Amy has developed bad hand tremors. Is what Simon shooting her up with making her better or worse? And speaking of Amy, Phillip visits a "rotter brothel". It seems he's there for watching movies and cuddling with a hooker that he refers to as "Amy". We all know where this is heading.

Freddie (a "deadie") is living with his ex-wife Haley and her husband Amir (just till he can get back on his feet). He tortures himself by watching their wedding videos. It is a tough situation for everyone involved. It finally comes to a head. Amir wants Freddie out. He's been staying with them for two months.

Amy is flittering about as usual. She asks Kieren what he talked about with My-mon (ie My Simon). Kieren confronts Simon about leading Amy on (if they are not really "involved"). Simon says he cares about her but not in that way. Amy is someone that needs to be shown love so he shows her love.

Freddie arrives outside Haley's workplace and reeves his engine until she comes out. He wants to take her for a birthday lunch. After some persuasion, Haley gets in the car. She might want to be careful since he previously died in a car accident. They have a heart to heart in the car. Things were not as wonderful as Freddie remembers them being.

Kieren and Simon's job assignment is to hose off two rabid deadies. Simon wants to release them but Kieren talks him out of it. Amy's job assignment is to be a secretary for Phillip (he pulled some strings since he's sweet on her). She obviously doesnt want to be there. She wants to be with her friends instead. She answers the phone "Village of the Damned, how may I help you?" She is hillarious.

Freddie has forgotten to take his medication. He is trapped in the garage with Haley. He gives him a hammer to kill him but she cant bring herself to do it. She is finally saved by Gary (but its a close call). Kieren is upset by the event and runs to Simon and Amy's house. Simon opens the door and Kieren promptly kisses him.

Maxine is busy looking for the the first to rise. She says the deadies believe that the first person to rise holds special power and will lead the "Second Rising". Maxine circles Kieren's face on a chart. Does she believe he's the first?

Questions To Ponder:
  • What is Simon up to? If he a disciple or actually the Undead Prophet himself? He seems to be telling everyone what they want to hear.
  • Is Kieren really the first to rise?
  • What is Maxine's true agenda?

Favorite Quotes:

Jen's father tries to get Jen to eat breakfast saying it's the most important meal of the day. Kieren says it's true. "I ate breakfast 5 years ago and I'm still full."

"It's just a tinsy winsy bit of brains... sheep's brains"- Amy's response when Kieren asks her why everyone is so high at the zombie rave.

"What's keeping you from being the people you are instead of copies of who you used to be?"

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). Two more great episodes. This is fast becoming one of my new favorite shows.
