We have come to the end of season one. The last two episodes were entitled "Ragtime" and "The Beginning Of The End". There was lots happening in these action packed episodes.
In the penultimate episode, we learn some of Ward's back story. We also find out that Garrett was the first subject for Operation Deathlok and will soon die without an infusion of the mysterious Guest House drug (which both Coulson and Skye also had). Ward is instructed to kill Fitz and Simmons but instead ejects them out of the plane into the ocean (in what looks like a locker). Cybertek, Centipede and Hydra are all connected.
That leads us to the finale which was great fun. A new employee is being shown around Cybertek headquarters. Each person controls one of the Centipede soldiers. Didnt this remind you of the US drone program? There is talk of an incentives program. Yeah Im thinking something's up with that. Anyway, they'll have to wait to attack Team Coulson because they escape.
Meanwhile Garrett is getting crazier by the minute. He thinks he knows the secrets of the universe and starts drawing strange symbols on a glass door. Lay off the Jesus Juice dude if ya cant handle it.
Poor Fitz and Simmons are still trapped underwater and it looks like they will die. They discuss being afraid of what will become of them after death. Simmons think they will just become a different form of energy (like part of a woolly mammoth or something). Fitz is trying to get up the nerve to tell Simmons he loves her but cannot. I thought there was going to be a real kiss but psych out. Fitz insists Simmons save herself but using the last remaining breath of air. She drags him to the surface anyway. Just when it looks like they were die anyway (since they're in the middle of the ocean), a helicopter appears with none other than Nick Fury. Simmons awakens in a decompression chamber and asked about Fitz. Nick says he's alive but had been without oxygen for a long time. Will we see Fitz again?
Back on the Bus, both Ward and Raina seem to think Garrett is off his rocker. Raina tells Ward that they need Skye to complete their "evolution" (whatever that means). Raina says she knows Skye's parents and there is definitely a dark side to her.
Quinn is leading a tour of Cybertek for some top military brass. He says their soldiers will replace the need for Army Rangers, Navy Seals etc. One general isnt convinced. Garrett (who Quinn announces is just a consultant) rips out one of the General's ribs and proceeds to beat him with it. Ouch.
Team Coulson breaks back into Cybertek. The prime directive of the Centipede soldiers is to apparently protect Garrett (so they lead the crew straight to him). Fight time! May finally gets the better of Ward but stabbing him in the foot and then knocking him unconscious. You should know by now never to mess with Melinda! It turns out the incentives program is actually a family member who is being held hostage. Upon finding out his son is safe, Deathlok/Mike Peterson promptly stomps the crap out of Garrett. So he looks dead... but no he is not. He drags himself to the Deathlok chair and boom, good as new. He starts to make a diabolical leader speech but Coulson shoots him mid sentence. Haa, that was too funny. Battle over.
Coulson gives Fury an earful about Tahiti. He gives Coulson a box and says you're in charge of SHIELD now. They go to yet another secret base and who do they see but Agent Koenig. How is that possible since he was killed and an autopsy performed? This is Billy Koenig instead. How many Koenigs are there?
Raina is still up to something. She enters what looks like a cell and tells a man that she has found his daughter. He sees a picture of Skye. The mystery thickens. And in the final scene, Coulson awakes in the middle of the night and starts drawing that crazy schematic that Garrett had previously drawn.
Favorite Quotes:
“I believe in a world where her true nature will reveal itself. When that day comes, maybe you two could be monsters together."- Raina to Ward about Skye.
“Why would you make me do this? You’re my best friend in the world!" says Simmons. “Yeah, and you’re more than that, Jemma so let me prove it to you.”- Fitz
Grade: 4 Monsters out of 5 (4 1/2 for the finale). Lots of action and lots of funny lines. The show has been renewed so there will be a second season. Not sure I'll keep doing recaps of this next year but we'll see.
