"Survivors" begins with a guy in a big floppy hat riding into town. I would make fun of his big hat but he might kill me. His name is Hook. No not Captain Hook/ This is not "Once Upon A Time". His name is William Hook. Apparently he and John Alden have a past. He later blackmails John by threatening to tell the good townspeople about what John really did during the war.
Meanwhile Mercy's father tries a homeopathic remedy and cuts her stomach.OK I guess it's really called a Catholic exorcism. I'm not up on such things. A big black snake slithers out and hightails it through the door. He was probably as traumatized as Mercy was. Mary wants Mercy to finger the town's blacksmith as the next witch but she's not cooperating since her "familiar" has left the building.
There's a ship quarantined in the harbor due to mysterious illness. The witches (Rose, Mary, Tituba and Hale) are busy doing their witch stuff like having secret meetings in the woods and wearing lots of cloaks. Rose is partial to wooden staffs.
Hale gives his daughter Anne a silver necklace to protect her from Mary. John and Cotton still suspect Hale of being one of the witches.
Mary and Tituba set about getting a new familiar for Mercy.. Mary casts another spell and the snake crawls back into her mouth. Im sure the snake is not happy about this either. Later they see Mercy and she is holding the snake in her hands. She says "I know what you are". Uh oh, busted! Was that a vision or did it really happen?
Hook breaks into Mary's house and finds poor George there. He has previously stolen a nail and stabbed himself so he could write "witches" in his blood on a piece of paper. Tituba convinces John to kill Hook (which he does). I thought he was one of the good guys. We do know that Hook had a strange box on him that he was taking to Rose. What does it all mean? It reminds me of "Hellraiser". Dont open the box!
Gloriana goes to see Cotton at the church. He rapes her and throws money at her afterwards. And I thought he was supposed to be one of the good guys too. I have the feeling there are no good guys in "Salem"--- just shades of nastiness.
Grade: 3 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). Todd the Toad did not make an appearance this week. Are we going to see him again? I miss him. And WGN just renewed "Salem" for a season 2. Wooh Hooh!!!
