Lost Girl Episode 8 Recap: Like Taking Candy From A Krampus

"Groundhog Fae" and "Destiny's Child" are the latest two installments of the bizarrely creative and extremely fun "Lost Girl". We finally got some answers (sorta) about who the Wander is and how Bo became Dark.

"Groundhog Fae" has everyone celebrating Yule (which is the Fae version of Christmas complete with a tree, presents and ugly sweaters). Yule is on the hottest day of the year though and features Krampus instead of Santa. If you're not familiar with Krampus he's a Slovenian/Czech mythic character who appears around the holidays. Instead of rewarding good children with presents, he sticks bad children in his bag and then EATS THEM on Christmas Eve. If that doesnt make ya behave, nothing will. "Grimm" also aired a great Krampus episode. See my review here: Grimm Episodes 7-8 Recaps: What's A Krampus?

Anyway, Bo keeps waking up in her car. She goes in the house where she's greeted by lots of strangers. Kenzi and Hale are upstairs having sexy times. Tamsin greets Bo (and kisses her). She tells Bo they are stuck in a time loop. Then various people (including Big Bruce) start disappearing. This happens over and over and over again. Bo goes to Trick for help but he's passed out in a tub. He says he hasnt helped Bo find the Wanderer because he's "terrified".

Tamsin confesses to Bo that she was hired by the Wander long ago to find Bo. She didnt think Bo existed and was afraid of the Wander so she took the job. Bo is very understanding. Meanwhile in the B story, Lauren and Dyson are drunk bonding. A box has arrived for Bo (that was sent by Bo). Many "box" jokes ensue. I'll spare you the details. Lauren also tells a corseted Vex that she'll sew his hand back on. Drunk surgery anyone?

We learn that the Krampus is a Fae creature that feeds on fear and regret. He makes the day repeat over and over again so he can enjoy it as much as possible. Oh and did I mention that he turns those with regret into candy? Yeah I know. That doesnt make any sense but whatever. Anyway Tamsin is released when she admits her fear. Bo is released when she admits she is afraid of herself, being abandoned by her family and friends and the Wanderer. It seems that Krampus is the Dr Phil of the Fae world. That was a lot of processing.

Random Stuff:

  • 1. For anyone keeping track we now has a love quadrangle with Lauren, Dyson, and Tamsin all in love with Bo. Bo loves either Dyson or Lauren (but so far not Tamsin) but the season is not over yet. Anything could happen.
  • 2. Bonus points for the scene where Lauren (with melting ice cream in hand) and Dyson watch Bo wash her car in SLOOOOW motion.
  • 3. Jeffrey is Krampus' son. Take that boy to a therapist because he has anger control issues.
  • 4. Yes this is a low budget show. Yes I could completely tell that Vex's whole hand was in that little cuff. I dont care.
  • 5. NEVER EVER eat gas station candy if you dont want this to happen to you.

Favorite Quotes:

  • 1. "You're my grandubus, my succudaughter"- Trick to Bo
  • 2. "Come to Team Vex where ye shall be judged as to who is most worthy of Bo's box"- Vex to Lauren and Dyson.
  • 3. "The Wanderer would do anything to create his perfect mate"- Tamsin. Not sure what that means.
  • 4. "Opa!"

Grade: 4 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). What else can I say about this show except you have to see it for yourself to understand it.
