Helix Episode 9 Recap: You Have Your Fathers Eyes

Day 9 at Arctic Biosystems finds Alan and Julia trying to get to Level X in order to destroy the NARViCK virus. The station was built in the 1850s on top of an abandoned Russian trading post. Does that mean Hatake has been there since the 1850s? The only problem is that the vectors are on Level X too. The plan is to freeze all of them out long enough to get the virus.

When they get down to Level X Julia and Alan find every horrible virus known to man (smallpox, the Black Plague, etc) but no NARVICK. Where is it? At the end of the episode we see Scientist Guy (Dr Adrian) put it in his bag. Where is he going and how did they get all those viruses in the first place?

In storyline B, the vectors are hacking up black slime and poring it down Peter's throat. He is apparently the chosen leader. They all communicate by screeching. Were they turned into vectors by aliens in order to serve as some worker class (like I had previously hypothesized)?

In storyline C, Constance had sent a death squad to kill Daniel's sister and burn down the village. Sergio and Ilaria Guy (I think his name is Klein) are locked in a cell. When the power in cut they escape and Sergio kills him. Sergio and Daniel make it to the village and find Anana along the way. They wipe out the Ilaria team. Miksa and his twin Tulok are reunited.

In storyline D, Sarah passes out while working with Hatake to turn off the power (after expounding on the nature of life). She has a Grade IV spinal tumor. She tried surgery (hence the big scar) but that didn't work.

Jules and Alan find an exact replica of her childhood Montana home on the lower floors. She confronts Hatake. It's not a replica. It is where she went when she thought she was in Montana. And in the big reveal of the night, Hatake takes out his contacts and says "You have your father's eyes". Of course we had pretty much guessed that already. We also find out that Julia's vision of Jaye was actually her mother Jane. II'm not buying that Jane was Julia's mother. I'm leaning towards Sutton instead. Remember the photo was ripped in half so we didn't actually see her.

And how many secret levels are there to this place? It's starting to remind me of the hive from "Resident Evil".

Helix Trivia:
  • What do you call a group of vectors? A swarm. PS Vectors are attracted to heat.

Favorite Quotes:
  • "What's coming up is far worse than Sutton. She was just the messenger. Next they (Ilaria) will send an army."- Hatake
  • "Have you ever stared death in the face?"- Sarah Jordan
  • "Don't ever calm me an Eskimo."-  Tulok to Miksa

Grade: 3 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). Not my most favorite episode but I still love "Helix".  There are only 4 episodes to go this season.
