Meanwhile Bo and Crow Man (his name is Hugin) go to a cemetery where a "murder" of crows is amassed. One is his brother (Munin), one is his wife, etc. Munin and the wife had the hots for each other and trapped Hugin as smoke in that bottle. But wait, that was all a lie. They just wanted to capture Bo. It appears that crows have no morals and are compulsive liars.
Bo escapes by falling into the grave that she was told to stay away from. In the underworld she encounters Levithan. Levi tries to remove Bo's soul but she is protected by a mark. Levi has been searching for that mark for six hundred years. It was supposed to be hers. Bo wants to fight it out but Levi instead challenges her to a game of riddles. OK I'm all for non violent conflict resolution but this seems a bit boring. Bo's riddle is "She is brilliant, he is strong, her life is short, his is long, both loves are pure, both loves are strong, which do I choose". There is of course no answer. A begrudging Levi sends Bo back but not before saying I will see you again soon since someone you love is going to die. Stay tuned, that's a big clue!
Back topside, the crows are chasing Bo but end up falling into various graves. "Watch your step". Oops nevermind. Then Dyson and Bo show up to save the day. Crow Guy takes Bo to the train... finally. Trick goes to visit Ming. She agrees to help recover his memories. He says "I remember who the Wanderer is". Ming laughs and says "With all of your ability to change the future, no matter what you do you’re still powerless to change your nature."
Flashback to Trick the Blood King and Tamsin in ancient times. Tamsin is looking a little worse for wear. Get that girl a makeover...stat. Anyway Trick cursed Rainer the Defiant (who is his mortal enemy) to wander eternity with no soul. No one would ever remember his name. Funny cause we know his name is Rainer so that wasnt a very good curse. Anyway in exchange for not taking Rainer's soul back to Valhalla, Trick lets Tamsin start her last life again so she can atone for all her previous misdeeds (or something like that). In present day, Tamsin gets a Valkie faced tells Kenzi not to trust Trick. Yes I agree. Do not trust Trick.
Back on the Soul Train, Bo finds the Wander welding (cause that's apparently what ya do when you're stuck for eternity on a train). He is a very attractive man. They start to fight but they end up in an embrace. She returns with him and tells Trick, Dyson and Lauren "Rainer is not my enemy. He is definitely not by father. He is my destiny". And now the love quadrangle becomes a love quintangle.
Favorite Quotes:
- Dyson: "What took you so long?" Lauren: "I was getting my science stuff" (as she opens you jacket to reveal a bunch of syringes).
- "I did not see that coming"- Munin the Crow
- Levi: "You cheated" (after not being able to answer the riddle). Bo "No I Boed it, and that is trademarked."
- "You overstate your purpose vulture" Trick to a rough looking Tamsin.
- "One is for sorrow, two is for mirth, three is for a funeral, four is for birth, five is for heaven, six is for hell, seven is for...sorry, I dont know the rest" Crows reciting the nursery rhyme.
Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). I totally thought the Wanderer was Bo's daddy so I was definitely wrong. Him being another potential love makes the story more interesting so I'm all for it.
