Vikings Season 2 Episode 2 Recap: Look Westward Young Vikings

Fast forward four years and Ragnar has two sons (and another one on the way) by Princess Aslaug. She is a baby making machine. He has not seen his other son Bjorn since he left with his mother Lagertha. Ragnar visits a seer. He tells Ragnar that his family will be very famous. One will marry the daughter of a king. One will travel around the sea with no tide. Bjorn may be the most successful of all though.

Ragnar still has a wandering eye which Aslaug tries to keep in check. She says their third son will be born with the mark of her father Sigurd (who was a dragon slayer). Not sure what that means but it's significant.

Rollo is still moping around. Siggy manages to get him going. She wants me to join the raiding party that is traveling to England. The brother reconcile somewhat but Ragnor still wont let him travel to England. King Horik also does not want Borg going (since they are enemies). You know that is going to cause trouble later.

And we always knew Siggy couldnt be trusted. She is stuck with a dud in Rollo so decides to branch out to sell any secrets about Ragnar to Horik. Aslaug later calls for Siggy and wants them to be friends. You gotta hand it to Siggy. She is a survivor.

During the voyage westward there is a big storm and some of the ships are lost. The remaining ones finally find land. They are soon attacked by soldiers who initially look like they might get the upper hand. The Vikings finally triumph though. They use Athelstan as a translator. They are in Wessex (which is ruled by King Eckert). Athelstan says he knows of him and he is much like Ragnar (so that means trouble). Ragnar later gives Athelstan a bracelet for saving his life in the battle.

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). "Invasion" was a solid episode with a great fight scene. I'm glad the show has progressed in time. There is a long history surrounding Ragnar and his sons so I'm not sure how they'll handle all of that. Will Ragnar die at some point? He is the best part of the show so I cant' imagine it without him.
