This week's episode entitled "Still" is Beth and Darryl centric. In fact, none of the other survivors even make an appearance. Beth decides she needs a real drink (ie some alcohol). It turns out Hershel never let her drink (since he liked it far too much himself).
They go to a country club where all sorts of horrors are evident. There are zombies hanging from nooses. There are decaying zombies everywhere. Part of someone is labeled "rich bitch" and is stuck on a mannequin. It looks like the "help" turned on the rich folk at the country club but everyone faced the same fate in the end. Darryl tries to pocket all the money and jewels (just in case he might need them later). He's a man after my own heart.
Beth finds some peach schnapps but Darryl wont let her drink it. She finds a new shirt but, thanks to Darryl smashing in a zombie's head, it's ruined. Geez, she cant have anything nice. And FINALLY a use for golf clubs. Golf would be SO much more interesting is you could hit each other with the clubs.
Later they happen upon a house that reminds Darryl of his childhood home. Its a shack with junk everywhere, moonshine out in the shed, and a very strange pink bra planter in the living room.
We learn quite a bit about Darryl and Beth's back stories in this episode. Beth is not some ditzy girl. She doesnt want the Zombie Apocalypse to changed who she us. She sings to make other people happy. Darryl was a white trash, moonshine drinking dude. He followed Merle around and was basically no one before the apocalypse. Will Beth and Darryl become a love connection? The scene with Beth hugging him from behind while he cried was very touching.
At the end of the episode they burn down the cabin and give a big middle finger to the past. I'm raising my fingers in solidarity.
What we learned from Darryl this week:
- How to hide in a trunk.
- How to eat rattlesnake.
- How to make a fire with something shiny.
- How to drink moonshine.
- How to cry in a manly way.
Favorite Quotes:
- "Yes Mr Dixon"- Beth
- "I'm not a happy drunk"- Darryl
- "I'm not afraid of nothing"- Darryl
And the award for WORST product placement ever goes to KFC: "The Walking Dead" brought to you by KFC cause the first thing I think of when seeing rotting zombies is fried chicken. #tasty #TheWalkingDead
Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). One of the most contemplative episodes to date. Im sure some will complain because there wasnt enough action but I really enjoyed "Still".
