Marvels Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Episode 2 Recap: 0-8-4 (Which Is Code For We Dont Know What It Is)

This week finds the team on their fancy plane (known as "the bus") heading to some ancient Peruvian ruins. They are on the lookout for a 0-8-4 (which is top secret agent speak for "an object of unknown origin"). I would just call it a NFI (for "no f^#%ing idea"). And what was the last 0-8-4 they encountered? Why it was Thor's hammer.

We're still not sure if Skye can be trusted. Coulson apparently sees something in her but he is the only one. When they locate the object, Fitz and Simmons engage in typical techno babble. Agents May and Ward are outside guarding the parameter and being bad asses as usual. We find out that Melinda (my favorite) does not like to be called by her nickname "The Calvary".

It turns out the object is based on HYDRA technology powered by Tesseract energy (which was referenced in "Captain America"). For more info about it see: http://marvel-movies.wikia.com/wiki/Tesseract

We think there is going to be a shootout in the jungle but the leader of the group is Camilla Reyes (an old acquaintance of Coulson's). The old friends catch up on agency gossip and then they board the plane with the team. We think Coulson is about to get lucky but it's all a ploy. Just remember kids, if a really hot woman comes onto you for no reason, its a TRAP.

The team blows a hole in the side of the plane. That doesn't sound like a good plan. While defeating the baddies they plug the hole with an inflatable raft. That made my laugh. Skye helps the others fight off the threat. She's now officially one of the team (and not just a consultant). Although Tony Stark (aka Ironman) is a consultant and he does pretty well for himself. At the end of the episode, Skye gets a text from the Rising Tide. Is she going to work for the forces of good or evil or try straddling the fence for a while? Stay tuned for more excitement next week.

Like "Sleepy Hollow", "Agents of SHIELD" is light fluffy brain candy. If you take it for what it's worth, it's a lot of fun.

Grade: 3 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). A solid second episode. Bonus points for Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) chewing out Coulson for destroying the plane. In an unrelated note, I'm not sure I'll keep recapping the show on a weekly basis though. I might switch to every two weeks instead.
