Witches of East End Episodes 4 Recap: A Few Good Talismen

To catch you up to speed, Ingrid and Freya now know they are immortal (more or less) witches. A Joanna doppelgänger is wreaking havoc. Joanna is already accused of murder thanks to him/her/it. Aunt Wendy is a cat who gets killed every few days and then comes back to life. Unfortunately Ingrid didn't know this last time and cast a spell to resurrect her. But she didn't read the fine print. If you bring someone back to life, someone else has to die in order to balance out the universe. Who is it going to be?

Now on to "A Few Good Talismen" (which is a fun title). The scene opens in 1693 where Joanna discovers her daughters have been burned at the stake for being witches. She cuts off the ear of the guy that squealed on them but she doesn't kill him (although she REALY, REALLY wants to).

Fast forward to present day. While talking to her (immortal) lawyer Harrison (what's his back story?) she has a premonition that her boss Principal Redmond is going to be killed by the evil doppelgänger. But alas, boss man is already dead and who she thought was ED (evil doppelgänger, not erectile dysfunction) is not. It's the pilgrim dude from the opening scene who turned them in for witchcraft. So now there's more than one entity out to get them. They must have really pissed off a lot of people in all their past lives. Joanna breaks her rule and offs the one eared man. Ya should have done that to start with and ya wouldn't be in this situation.

Wendy wants to work a little magic on Maura Thatcher (who is accusing Joanna of killing her husband). She needs a special species of butterfly in order to bring the plan to fruition so she looks up a local entomologist. To get into his apartment she pretends to be a cat, then a naked woman who is locked out of her apartment. I believe she's pulled this stunt in the past. And I'm sure it worked EVERY time... Cause I would seriously give her anything she wanted. Maura is now seeing bugs so everyone thinks she's cuckoo.

Freya is still stuck between Dash (the doctor) and Killian (the brooding artistic type). I wonder what secrets that family is hiding? Anyway I'm glad their mother Penelope is being a little nicer. Ingrid is asked by Barb to be the godmother of her child. We think she is going to lose the baby. Nope everything is OK. Then Ingrid is out with Adam. They share a romantic kiss in the rain. His nose starts bleeding. And in the final scene the paramedics say they've lost him. Adam has left this celestial sphere. Poor Ingrid! Now we know whose live was exchanged to resurrect Wendy.

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). I don't care what the critics say. This is a fun show with lots of eye candy. Alas I'm pretty sure my cat doesn't turn into anyone that like looks like Aunt Wendy.
