The Walking Dead Episodes 1-2 Recaps: Thirty Days Without An Accident and Infected (Season Premiere)

Yeah! "The Walking Dead" is finally back for a fourth season.

Episode 1: "Thirty Days Without An Accident"
  • This episode takes place some time after the final Woodbury confrontation with the Governor. Rick is no longer the boss and spends a lot of time farming. Carl, who has grown considerably, is getting along better with his father.
  • The rest of the Woodbury residents have joined them in the prison. The regulars are still around-- Glenn, Carol, Daryl, Hershel, Maggie, Sasha, Tyrese, Beth and Baby Judith. Michonne has been out looking for the Governor who is nowhere to be seen.
  • Romance is blooming at the prison (which we always know is a bad thing). That means Beth's boyfriend and Tyrese's girlfriend's days are numbered.  And Beth has toughened up considerably since last season.
  • Carl makes a friend Patrick. Oh never mind, he's dead.
  • While checking his traps, Rick encounters a woman he initially thinks is a zombie but she's not.  Her boyfriend apparently has died of starvation. The woman stabs herself because she can't do it alone.
  • The stupid children are waving at the zombies and naming them.
  • And everybody knows that when you go on a supply run, most of the supporting characters die.
  • There are some great looking walkers ("great" is a relative term when talking about zombies) this year! Those zombies busting through the ceiling was crazy.

Episode 2: "Infected"
  • People that have not been bitten are turning into zombies. Rick thinks the pigs might be making people sick. The zombies almost bring the fence down. To prevent this Rick and Darryl take all the pigs out for the zombies to eat.
  • Anyone who has any symptoms must be separated from the group (just in case). Is this transmitted from animal (pig or bird) to human? Is it airborne? Is it a variation of the flu? What did that guy at the CDC whisper in Rick's ear all those years ago? Was it that we all already have the virus inside of us? Will we actually find out this season?
  • Carl asks for his gun back. He later tells Rick that Carol has been teaching the kids how to kill but didn't want the parents to know. Ya little tattle tale! The children should know how to defend themselves.
  • Mich injures her ankle trying to get back into the prison. She holds Judith for a while (thanks to Beth forcing the baby on her). Mich has an emotional breakdown. Did she lose a baby? Poor Michonne!
  • Tyrese finds that his girlfriend Karen has turned. She was later burned outside (by an unknown person) so they couldn't reanimate.
  • And are the kids feeding rats to walkers? If so someone needs to give them a reality check and quick!
  • Bonus points for the walker who literally stuck his head through the fence. That was crazy.

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). I've really missed this show. I hope it lasts forever!
