The Walking Dead Episode 3 Recap: And Thats Why You Need A Flu Shot

Smooth seas do not make good sailors.
Episode 3 entitled "Isolation" finds many of the prison dwellers coming down with the super flu (including Glenn, Sasha and Dr S). And if that wasn't bad enough, we learned last week that dying from ANYTHING turns you into a zombie. No longer do you have to be bit by one first.

We find out Carol is the person that burned Karen (Tyreese's girlfriend) and David alive in order to stop the spread of the virus. Obviously that didn't work. It has been interesting to watch Carol's progression throughout the show. To begin with, she was beaten down (figuratively and literally) by her abusive husband. She then lost her daughter Sophia which was heartbreaking. Now she's hard core (teaching the kids to defend themselves, figuring out how to keep everyone alive, etc). Last week one of the men that died asked her to take care of his daughters (Lizzie and Whats-Her-Name). Lizzie has come down with the flu so has to be quarantined. That causes Carol to have a temporary breakdown. I'm afraid Carol may become as bat shit crazy as Rick given everything she's been through. She took WAY too many changes going outside the fence to unclog the water pump. What will happen to her next? I really hope they don't kill her.

A group (Daryl, Tyreese, Michonne, Bob) travel to the local vet college for antibiotics which is 50 miles away. On the way their (no so) speedy Dodge Charger is surrounded by a horde of zombies.  Daryl who apparently cant drive because he's NOT LOOKING AT THE ROAD gets stuck on a mountain of zombie bodies. Everyone makes a run for it except Tyreese. He stays in the car. We think he's a goner but he has some anger issues and a hammer so he's good. Speaking of anger issues, not sure what that was about when Rick beat the crap out of Tyreese. Obviously the man is distraught over the loss of Karen. Cut him some slack. I guess it's safe to say that everyone that has survived thus far has major issues.

And Rick determines that Carol is the killer of Karen and David thanks to his excellent detective work. Hey there aren't that many people at the prison. Its not that hard to figure out. He confronts her. She simply says "yes" and then calmly walks away. Well then. Mental note: sleep with one eye open around Carol.

Hershel exposes himself to the flu in order to make Elderberry tea for everyone. Is tea really going to help that much? Maggie begs him not to. What is she going to do if Hershel and Glenn die? She'll be stuck with Beth, that's what.

Burning questions of the week:
  • Who was that voice they heard on the radio? It said something like "Find sanctuary, determine to survive, stay alive".
  • And where did the Governor go? You can bet he's still up to no good.
  Fun Zombies of the Week
  • Half a zombie stuck under a tree
  • Zombie with leg in bear trap
  • Big pile of zombies stuck under the car (I hate that when it happens)

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). Extra points for all the s#@t these poor people have to put up with. Cant they catch a break, even for a few days?
